EDU – LAC Impact Fund

The Global Fund for the Development of Pilot and Impact Evaluations was born in 2019 from SUMMA’s collaboration with the Education Endowment Foundation (EEF) under the initiative “Building a global ecosystem of evidence for teaching improvement”, funded by the BHP Foundation, as part of its Global Education Equity Programme.

Global Fund for the Development of Pilot and Impact Assessments

The fund seeks to promote the generation of new evidence through the rigorous evaluation of promising educational interventions to improve student learning at school level. To this end, it (i) identifies innovations with a high potential impact on improving learning and closing educational gaps, (ii) opens competitions to the education research community to conduct evaluations of these promising programmes to improve student learning, and (iii) promotes the use of evidence, making the results and recommendations of the evaluated initiatives available to the community.

Project objectives

To identify promising educational programmes to improve the learning of students and to close the educational gap of those students in situations of greater socio-educational vulnerability.

To evaluate innovative interventions with promising results in learning improvement, which seek to contribute to the quality and equity of education in Latin America and the Caribbean.

To develop and strengthen local capacities to implement, evaluate and improve innovative practices and programmes. We promote a culture of collaboration around the generation of new evidence, with multidisciplinary work teams guided by rigorous quality standards and a deep respect for people’s rights.

To deepen collaboration between SUMMA and other organizations in Latin America and the Caribbean – LAC, articulating practices and policies informed by research and evidence.

Impact on society

The impact evaluation of the Conecta Ideas platform, which uses games to motivate students to learn mathematics, began in April 2022 with more than 200 schools in Greater Santiago.

Collaborative Learning School is an initiative implemented by the SEPEC Foundation, which is developed through teacher training and classroom implementation.

This initiative trains teachers in the TaRL methodology for subsequent implementation with students. It will be delivered in twelve rural schools in Colombia.

In 2022 and 2023, with the support of SUMMA, EEF, Instituto Natura and the Ministry of Education of Corrientes, Argentina, Fundación Más Voces will be able to implement Learning Communities in fifteen new public elementary schools.
