This policy brief is based on the evidence compiled in the Report “Mapping the Literature on Student Learning Recovery and Catch-Up” (December 2021) prepared in support of the KIX LAC project. The purpose is to provide a literature mapping of effective practices in the training of teachers and facilitators1 for the recovery and leveling of learning.
The synthesis collected in this report was elaborated from previous works by Marcelo and Vaillant (2018) and Vaillant and Marcelo (2015) who have studied the subject in depth and systematically analyzed the production of author-referents on the subject. The aforementioned production constitutes the basis for the synthesis made in the following paragraphs on effective practices in the area of continuous training of teachers and facilitators. It should be remembered that this is a topic that has been present for decades in the pedagogical literature, so that some of the literature cited is not recent.
