Community of practice in the use of evidence
1 de August de 2020

KIX LAC community of practice on the use of evidence:
Communities of practice are groups of people who share an interest in something they do and interact regularly to learn how to do it better. KIX LAC communities of practice are developed as meeting spaces for representatives and experts in education, where activities will be carried out that allow for the exchange of knowledge, experiences, and perspectives on a topic of common interest. This encourages community participants to become involved and acquire new knowledge on a specific topic.
2. Community of Practice “Use of Evidence in Education” | 2023–2024
One of the main objectives of the Global Partnership for Education (GPE) and IDRC in creating the KIX program was to contribute to the development of data innovation by improving Education Management Information Systems (EMIS) and strengthening a culture of evidence use. These are the main tools used by countries to collect, process, analyze, and disseminate data in order to measure improvements in learning, schools, students, ministries of education, and the education system in general.
That is why there is a need to design and implement a cycle of exchange and capacity building for the different actors in the education ecosystem of the countries that make up KIX LAC. This cycle focuses on promoting a culture of using evidence for informed decision-making, as well as strengthening capacities in EMIS. The objective is to address current challenges in the region and promote a data-driven approach to improving educational quality and equity in the post-COVID-19 context.
Objectives:
- Promote a culture of using solid evidence in educational decision-making: Encourage the use of research, gray literature, data, and evaluations as a basis for informed decision-making in educational practice and policy.
- Develop specific skills and capacities: Provide training and capacity-building opportunities on topics related to the culture of evidence use, EMIS systems, and the challenges of the learning crisis, enabling participants to acquire practical skills and specialized knowledge.
- Address the challenges of the learning crisis: Analyze effective evidence-based strategies to overcome the challenges arising from the learning crisis, such as the gap in access to education, learning gaps, and educational inequality.
- Foster knowledge sharing and collaboration: Create a space for joint learning, promoting collaboration and the exchange of experience, resources, and good practices among the different actors in the region’s education ecosystem.

1. Community of Practice “Gender and Education” | 2021–2022
The KIX LAC Community of Practice “Gender Equality Perspective in Public Education” held five working sessions with the participation of various representatives from the education sector in Central America and the Caribbean.
Its objective was to create a space for reflection, discussion, and work on the challenges and opportunities surrounding gender equality in public education in the region. There, members of the community of practice were able to exchange experiences in research and innovation, with the aim of learning about the current situation in the region and the possibility of adapting, testing, and/or expanding educational innovations.
Access was also provided to specific content such as literature reviews, newsletters, interviews, and workshops with relevant and up-to-date information on education and gender.
