The strengthening of the Educational Information and Management Systems (EMIS) in the Eastern Caribbean has been consolidated as a strategic line of work with a regional focus. This collaborative effort responds to an express request from the region’s Ministers of Education, who promoted coordinated action through the EMIS Task Force.
As part of this process, most of the Eastern Caribbean countries conducted self-assessment diagnostics of their EMIS and participated in a regional workshop in Grenada on June 4 and 5 to explore a shared approach to the development of these systems. This meeting represents a key step towards regional integration and collaboration on educational data.
The Knowledge and Innovation Exchange Hub in Latin America and the Caribbean (KIX LAC) – an initiative promoted by the Global Partnership for Education (GPE), the International Development Research Centre (IDRC) of Canada, and led in Latin America and the Caribbean by SUMMA and the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) -has played a key role in supporting this regional priority. The KIX LAC Country Support Mechanism facilitated the presence of several Eastern Caribbean states at this workshop, where progress was made in defining a regional EMIS model and the need to promote data standardization.

The country delegations that participated in this activity included the four countries that are part of KIX LAC-Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Dominica and Grenada-along with Saint Kitts and Nevis, the British Virgin Islands and Antigua and Barbuda. Representatives of the Information Systems Units were present, as well as key institutions working in this area, such as the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB), the University of Oslo, the SKIP Project, the NEWLO and TAMCC Colleges of Higher Education, Grenada’s ministerial authorities, SUMMA and the OECS.
A total of 24 attendees took part in the face-to-face sessions, while organizations such as GPE, IDRC, UNESCO and the CSESI Project participated virtually in a selected session, contributing to regional dialogue and alignment.
This initiative reflects a shared commitment to regional collaboration, strengthening Educational Management and Information Systems, and advancing the digital transformation of education in the Eastern Caribbean.
