SUMMA Director Javier Gonz\u00e1lez met in Grenada with the country’s Prime Minister, Dickon Mitchell; Minister of Education, David Andrew; and the permanent secretary responsible for educational administration at the Ministry for Education, Lorraine St. Louis-Nedd, with the aim of advancing the design and promotion of a national literacy programme.<\/p>\n

The initiative builds on the Antigua Commitment to Literacy<\/a>, developed and led by education ministers from 11 Latin American and Caribbean countries, SUMMA, and the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) last year during the KIX LAC Regional Meeting.<\/a><\/p>\n

Furthermore, as part of the work with GPE KIX and under the leadership of the Government of Grenada, Gonz\u00e1lez met with representatives of the private sector in that country to advance their involvement and financing of the programme.<\/p>\n

This effort is part of SUMMA’s collaborative work with countries to develop evidence-based policies based on principles of educational justice that guarantee foundational learning, a critical and historic challenge for education systems throughout Latin America and the Caribbean.<\/p>\n
