{"id":92877,"date":"2023-09-23T12:31:00","date_gmt":"2023-09-23T15:31:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/summaedu.org\/sin-categoria\/summa-en-evento-sobre-monitoreo-de-la-equidad-en-la-educacion-en-lac-organizado-por-usaid-y-acer\/"},"modified":"2025-12-05T12:40:08","modified_gmt":"2025-12-05T15:40:08","slug":"summa-en-evento-sobre-monitoreo-de-la-equidad-en-la-educacion-en-lac-organizado-por-usaid-y-acer","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/summaedu.org\/en\/news\/summa-at-event-on-monitoring-equity-in-education-in-lac-organized-by-usaid-and-acer\/","title":{"rendered":"SUMMA at event on \u201cMonitoring Equity in Education in LAC\u201d, organized by USAID and ACER"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>SUMMA&#8217;s Deputy Director, Rafael Carrasco, took part in a discussion on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.acer.org\/au\/gem\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Global Education Monitoring (GEM)<\/strong><\/a> Center&#8217;s research on indicators of economic, cultural and social status (ECSS) for monitoring equity in education, organized by USAID&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.edu-links.org\/global-reading-network\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Global Reading Network (GRN)<\/strong><\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.acer.org\/au\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> <strong>and the Australian Council for Educational Research. <\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The online event focused on developing ECSS indicators of quality in education and using program data efficiently and effectively to improve practices.<\/p>\n<p>Carrasco was one of the speakers along with Dr. Alejandra Osses Vargas, researcher at the GEM Center, ACER; and Dr. Ursula Schwantner, Head of the GEM Center, ACER. SUMMA&#8217;s Deputy Director spoke on &#8220;The case of Chile: 3 decades of NSE relevance in educational policies&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>The GEM Center studied regional and international educational assessments in which LAC countries participate and found a relationship between ECSS indicators and educational outcomes. With these findings, researchers discovered ways to monitor equity in education. The GEM Center also discovered inconsistencies in how large-scale assessments reflected contextualization, including variations to account for geographic and cultural contexts.
