{"id":88575,"date":"2025-10-30T14:37:28","date_gmt":"2025-10-30T17:37:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/summaedu.org\/?p=88575"},"modified":"2026-01-23T09:25:58","modified_gmt":"2026-01-23T12:25:58","slug":"participation-of-kix-lac-in-the-gpe-kix-inter-hubs-meeting-in-ottawa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/summaedu.org\/en\/news\/kix\/participation-of-kix-lac-in-the-gpe-kix-inter-hubs-meeting-in-ottawa\/","title":{"rendered":"Participation of KIX LAC in the GPE KIX Inter-Hubs Meeting in Ottawa"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #808080;\"><em>Photo credits: IDRC (Canada)<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>From October 20 to 22, 2025, the <strong data-start=\"295\" data-end=\"411\">in-person Inter-Hubs Meeting of the Global Partnership for Education Knowledge and Innovation Exchange (GPE KIX)<\/strong> took place in Ottawa, Canada \u2014 a joint effort with the <strong data-start=\"467\" data-end=\"519\">International Development Research Centre (IDRC)<\/strong> of Canada.<\/p>\n<p>The meeting aimed to strengthen the program\u2019s effectiveness, advance the implementation of the inter-hub learning agenda, and project the sustainability of KIX beyond 2027. Teams from the four Regional Hubs participated &#8211; <strong>Africa 19, Africa 21, EMAP<\/strong> (Europe, Middle East, Asia, and the Pacific Islands) and <strong>LAC<\/strong> &#8211; together with representatives from <strong>GPE<\/strong> and <strong>IDRC<\/strong>, including <strong>Ian MacPherson, Head of Knowledge and Innovation Exchange (KIX) at GPE; Tricia Wind, GPE KIX Program Leader at IDRC (Canada); and Florencio Ceballos, Program Officer at IDRC (Canada).<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The KIX LAC Hub, led in Latin America and the Caribbean by <strong>SUMMA<\/strong> and the <strong>Organization of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS)<\/strong>, took part in the different sessions of the meeting, sharing lessons learned, progress, and challenges related to the use of evidence for decision-making and the transformation of education systems in the region.<\/p>\n<p>From SUMMA, its <strong>director, Javier Gonz\u00e1lez<\/strong>, joined <strong>Ra\u00fal Chac\u00f3n, Director of the KIX LAC Hub<\/strong>, and<strong> Rosa Mar\u00eda Moncada, Country Support Officer at KIX LAC<\/strong>. The OECS was represented by<strong> Germain Anthony, Senior Technical Specialist in Education<\/strong>, who presented the case on Regional Approaches to Education Management Information Systems (EMIS).<\/p>\n<p>The KIX LAC Hub shared its main achievements and ongoing work, including research and capacity-building initiatives in Honduras, the collaboration with the University of the West Indies (UWI) to support the reform of the initial teacher education curriculum, technical assistance to El Salvador\u2019s education reform, and advances in strengthening Regional Education Management and Information Systems (EMIS) in the Caribbean. Reflecting on the Ottawa meeting, <strong>Ra\u00fal Chac\u00f3n<\/strong> highlighted: <em>\u201cThis encounter with other hubs, IDRC, and GPE allows us to analyze the actions we are carrying out with different actors and institutions across countries to contribute to the improvement of their education systems. Ultimately, what matters to us is that each initiative we develop generates positive results and impacts\u2014both at the individual level, through diverse learning and exchange experiences, and at the institutional and policy levels, by bringing evidence into the discussion.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The event represented a valuable opportunity to strengthen dialogue and cooperation among regions, fostering the exchange of experiences, knowledge, and lessons learned by each hub. In this regard, <strong>Rosa Mar\u00eda Moncada<\/strong> emphasized the importance of involving technical teams, noting that <em>\u201cwe must always ensure the inclusion of mid-level technical staff, as they are the ones who provide long-term stability to any initiative.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, <strong>Javier Gonz\u00e1lez<\/strong> stressed the importance of strategic planning in educational change processes: <em>\u201cWe must identify which stage of policy change we are in, map all the actors involved, develop a knowledge map, build a coalition, and identify the necessary tools \u2014 all with the goal of achieving sustainable transformations.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Through these exchanges, the KIX LAC Hub reaffirms its commitment to collective learning and evidence-based action, working toward a more just, equitable, and high-quality education across Latin America and the Caribbean.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Photo credits: IDRC (Canada) &nbsp; From October 20 to 22, 2025, the in-person Inter-Hubs Meeting of the Global Partnership for Education Knowledge and Innovation Exchange (GPE KIX) took place in Ottawa, Canada \u2014 a joint effort with the International Development Research Centre (IDRC) of Canada.
