SUMMA, through its KIX LAC center, and promoted by the Global Partnership for Education (GPE) and IDRC, held the second participatory workshop with the different technical teams of the Ministry of Education of El Salvador, headed by Minister Jos\u00e9 Mauricio Pineda, who are in charge of carrying out the educational reform “My New School”, which seeks a structural change in the education of the
\nEl Salvador. Based on the joint work carried out in recent months, the technical analysis allows us to propose that the central core of the proposed reform is related to (1) the implementation of a new pedagogical model, which requires (2) the strengthening and development of the enabling conditions subsystems.<\/span><\/p>\n

Objectives:<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n
    \n
  1. To deliver to MINEDUCYT’s technical teams the main results of the first phase of the consultancy, aimed at conducting a technical analysis of the <\/span>reform and the components of the Salvadoran educational system.<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. To provide a space for reflection and discussion of the technical teams of MINEDUCYT around the main results of the consultancy.<\/span><\/li>\n
  3. To include in the technical discussion of MINEDUCYT the key axes for the implementation of the educational reform.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Subsequently, a meeting was held to deepen the results with the advisory and evaluation teams of the Ministry, two areas considered key for the educational reform.<\/span><\/p>\n

    Main achievements:<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n

    The workshop allowed a general feedback of the results and mainly to install the following concepts in the Ministry’s team in charge of the reform:<\/span><\/p>\n

      \n
    • Focus of the reform on the installation of a new pedagogical model: all efforts should be directed in an articulated manner towards this objective.<\/span><\/li>\n
    • Importance of evaluating the progress of the reform: need to define a strategy to monitor achievements and reorient if necessary.<\/span><\/li>\n
    • Strengthen the work of principals as a central dimension of the reform, not previously considered.<\/span><\/li>\n
    • Design a specific governance system for the reform: including an executive committee and coordination bodies.<\/span><\/li>\n
    • Importance of promoting the appropriation and empowerment of the different institutional levels linked to the reform (particularly the intermediate level -DDE- and the local level of the schools).<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
