The KIX Conversations are engaging spaces for interviews with representatives of KIX LAC and actors in the field of education in Latin America and the Caribbean. In an interview format, the guest discusses and provides his or her perspective on a topic, challenge or project that is being carried out and that is of interest to the educational ecosystem of the KIX LAC countries.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u27a1\ufe0fFrom Reform to Reality: The New Curriculum Transforming Early Childhood Education in Guatemala (in Spanish)<\/a><\/h5>\n

September 2025 \u2013 Claudia Morales, Director General of Quality Education Management at the Ministry of Education of Guatemala<\/strong>, shared the main changes and motivations behind the update of the National Basic Curriculum for Pre-primary Education, the collaborative process that made it possible, and the progress and challenges this new curriculum presents in responding to diversity and contemporary challenges in the country\u2019s classrooms. The interview was conducted by Pedro Garret, Project and Research Coordinator, KIX LAC<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\u27a1\ufe0f<\/span>Towards holistic early childhood development in the region (audio in Spanish)<\/span><\/strong><\/a><\/h5>\n

February 2025 – Alejandra Cort\u00e1zar, Senior Fellow at the Inter-American Dialogue<\/b>, took part and provided a detailed analysis of the main advances and challenges in the region with regard to early childhood education. The interview was conducted by Pedro Garret, KIX LAC Project and Research Coordinator<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u27a1\ufe0f<\/a>The development of EMIS in Guyana<\/strong><\/a><\/span><\/h5>\n

August 2024 – Tonnica Dey, Director of Planning, and Dahvis Caldiera, Senior Statistician, from the Ministry of Education of Guyana<\/strong>, spoke about the development of the Education Information and Management Systems (EMIS) <\/strong>in that country. The interview was conducted by KIX LAC Country Support Officer, Rosa Mar\u00eda Moncada<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

\u27a1\ufe0f<\/strong>Learning Assessments: Perspectives from St. Lucia Teachers\u2019 Union<\/strong><\/span><\/a><\/h5>\n

February 2024 – This edition of the KIX Conversations featured Don Howell<\/strong>, president of the Saint Lucia Teachers’ Union <\/b>and representative for Saint<\/strong> Lucia <\/b>at the KIX LAC, who spoke about the importance of learning assessment and the role of teachers in this process. The interview was conducted by KIX LAC researcher Manuela Pombo.<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

\u27a1\ufe0f Could the use of evidence strengthen education in Haiti (english subtitles)<\/a><\/strong><\/h5>\n

September 2023 – We had the participation of Dr. Guerlande BIEN-AIM\u00c9, <\/b>coordinator of the Training pillar of InnovEd-Uniq. and representative for Haiti at the KIX LAC center, who spoke about the educational context of the country and the current state of research and the use of evidence. October 2022 – This edition of the KIX Conversations featured the participation of KIX LAC representative and president of the Dominica Teachers Association, Mervin Alexander<\/strong>, who was interviewed by Fernanda del Pozo, KIX LAC researcher<\/strong>, who spoke about the impacts of COVID-19, lessons learned and the importance of teacher training today.<\/span><\/p>\n

July 2022 – In a new edition of the KIX Conversations, we had the presence of Rossny Antonio Pe\u00f1a Almanza, <\/b>head of the Department of Educational Research of the Ministry of Education of Nicaragua, member of the Network of Educational Researchers of Nicaragua (RIENIC) and representative in the KIX LAC Center for this country, who was interviewed by Dr. Maciel Morales Aceit\u00f3n, KIX LAC researcher. February 2022 – Rossen Mir\u00f3n L\u00f3pez, head of the Social Studies Area of the General Directorate of Evaluation and Educational Research of the Ministry of Education of Guatemala,<\/strong> spoke about the main challenges in the learning of reading and the importance of a model that can guide teachers, managers, education workers and governments in developing more effective educational policies and strategies.<\/span><\/p>\n

January 2022 – This edition was attended by Juan Carlos Fern\u00e1ndez Saca, National Director of Educational Evaluation of the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology<\/strong> of El Salvador and representative in the KIX LAC Center for this country, who was interviewed by Mar Botero<\/strong>, KIX LAC Communities Coordinator.<\/span><\/p>\n

October 2021 – This edition of the KIX Conversations was attended by the representatives of El Salvador in the KIX LAC, who are also the authors of the research “Leaving? Staying? Returning? Migration dynamics and their effect on the education of Salvadorans”<\/a>. Estela Armijo,<\/b> education analyst and David L\u00f3pez<\/b>, coordinator of the FES Program, from the Escuela Superior de Econom\u00eda y Negocios were interviewed by KIX LAC researcher, Maciel Morales Aceit\u00f3n<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>\n

May 2021 – Dr. Herman Van de Velde, coordinator of ABACOenRED<\/strong> and Niria Adelayda Brown Salgado, a teacher at the Jos\u00e9 Mart\u00ed Normal School in Matagalpa, were the guests of this fourth edition of the KIX Conversations, interviewed by Christian Silva<\/strong>, SUMMA’s communications director.<\/span><\/p>\n

February 2021 – In this edition of the KIX Conversations delved into the current state of education in Eastern Caribbean countries and the post-pandemic challenges and opportunities that exist. Dr. Neva Pemberton, Technical Specialist of the Educational Development Management Unit of the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States Commission<\/strong>; and Dr. Claudia Louis, Head of the Planning Unit of the Ministry of Education of Saint Lucia<\/strong> and KIX LAC member, were the guests and spoke about COVID-19 and equity in education.<\/span><\/p>\n

December 2020 – The director of the GEM Report for Latin America and the Caribbean<\/strong>, Manos Antoninis<\/strong>, together with Javier Gonzalez<\/strong>, director of SUMMA<\/strong>, spoke about the challenges and lessons learned from the GEM 2020 report on inclusion in education.<\/span><\/p>\n
